Angelica root - Angelica archangelica
Angelica is a large biennial flowering plant that has been long used in cooking and medicine. The root is spicy, bitter and aromatic. It's potent scent and flavour is often used in alcoholic spirits like Gin and Absinthe. Traditionally it was used as a warming bitter tonic to ease weak irritable digestion. and as a circulatory stimulant restoring blood flow to hands and feet. The warming antispasmodic properties mean it was used for menstrual pains.
